Obituary of Alma E. Schulze

IN LOVING MEMORY OF ALMA E. SCHULZE Alma Emma Schulze, daughter of Paul Emel and Agnes (Dicks) Wudtke, was born November 6, 1914, in Olpe, Kansas, and passed away at Andbe Home in Norton, Kansas, on July 15, 2017, at the age of 102. When Alma was two years old, she moved with her parents and older brother, Herman, to a farm 8½ miles northwest of Norton, where she spent her childhood. She had six brothers and sisters. Alma attended Boles country school for two years then went to the Lutheran parochial school two miles from the farm until she graduated from the 8th grade in 1928. At the age of 17, she went to work in Norton as a maid. Alma married Leo Charles Schulze on March 10, 1940. They made their home on a farm 11 miles northwest of Norton, where they raised their three sons and one daughter. Alma worked as a farmwife and was a loving mother. In 1973, Alma and Leo moved to a home on the east side of Norton, where she worked various jobs. Together they bought and ran a local liquor store. In 2002, Alma moved to the Norton Manor as Leo was in the Andbe Home. Leo passed away in March 2003. In 2013, Alma moved to Whispering Pines and in August 2014, she went to live at the Andbe Home. Alma was involved in activities as a lifelong member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church. She was active in EHU and Farm Bureau, and was a leader in 4-H. Alma spent many years as a volunteer at the Norton County Hospital and Andbe Home. She was also a longtime faithful blood donor to the Red Cross. Alma loved babies and children, dancing, and a good game of cards. Survivors include: one son, Dale Schulze, and one daughter, Donna Thomas, both of Norton; two daughters-in-law, Marcia Schulze, Gooding, Idaho; Jeanne Schulze, Salina, Kansas; one brother, Marvin Wudtke, Norton; one sister, Norma Jean Davis, Colorado Springs, Colorado; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews and their families; other relatives and friends. Alma was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two sons, Dennis and Lonnie, one one son-in-law, Ronald Thomas, one daughter-in-law, Rosalie Schulze, one granddaughter, Tonya Boyer, one great-granddaughter, Cassandra Owens, two brothers, Herman and Arthur, and two sisters, Ida Gowens and Lenora Braun.
