Hi. Sorry to hear about Alma. I talked to my mother Rosie(Dicks)O'Oonnell today Fri/21. She told me about Alma. I remember a long time ago that my Dad- William (Bill) Dicks and I came to Norton to see her mom Agnes and she was there at the house. I'm sorry that I didn't stay in better touch with everybody in the past. If any body wants to talk at me use the email address. Every body take care and God Bless. Eileen Sample

Aunt Alma was my favorite. She was an inspiration and a disciplinarian to me and for me.
When I think of her and my mother, I think 'this is what America is about. No one worked harder for family than they did during the hardest of times. They were still the backbone of what made this country great.
There are so many memories to recount. Never a meal missed even when the farm was so demanding of the chores they were charged with. Never complaining, just doing.
Remembering the churning of butter in her basement, when we thought it was fun until the churning became hard, she always made us finish. Cruel then, but a true life lesson forever. She never hesitated to swat my butt or pull my ear lobe when I needed reminded of right from wrong., like the time we hunted sparrows in the chicken house at night with a flashlight and BB guns. Somehow a window pane got shot out, or the time somehow an egg fight broke out behind the chicken house. Somehow her favorite sons always dragged me in.
If you ever wanted to play pitch for fun, you didn't play with Aunt Alma. She was dead serious and a fierce competitor.
I am so thankful that the brief time we returned to Norton, that I was able to visit with her and my wife so thoroughly enjoyed her.
One didn't have to know her to love her...you just did.

I am sorry to hear this news. Aunt Alma was a wonderful lady. I enjoyed talking with her whenever we got to see her. She loved to tease us about living on the farm. It was always fun to play cards with the family. Unfortunately we did not see each other often enough. When I graduated from high school they made the trip to Galena to be there. It meant a lot to me and to my mom.
We are not able to be there this week but know that we are thinking of you.
Love to all,
Leanna and Danny
