IN LOVING MEMORY OF VEDA B. BRANNAN Veda Bernice Brannan, 85, of Kansas City, Missouri, passed away Sunday, March 5, 2017, at North Care Hospice in North Kansas City, Missouri. Veda was born February 10, 1932, to Samuel and Nora (Liby) Hileman, in Clay Center, Kansas. As a young lady in Clay Center, she waited tables at a local restaurant. Veda married her husband, Merle Elroy Brannan, on April 10, 1948, in Morganville, Kansas, and shortly after, moved to Norton, Kansas, where she raised her three children Brenda, Thomas, and Gail. During her life in Norton, she worked as a nurse's aide at the State Sanitarium. She promoted to a scrub nurse and then continued on to get her LPN license and teach at the State Sanitarium. Veda was vital in starting the Norton Rescue Squad where she continued to work until an accident in 1996, while working on the ambulance. Veda retired several times, going from the State to the Norton County Health Department, all while still taking on call for the rescue squad. In 1997, Merle, her husband of almost 50 years passed away. She then moved to Salina, Kansas, and started volunteering for Hospice. She came to Kansas City, Missouri, where she volunteered at the KCI Airport for a short time, before returning to Clay Center and purchasing a house in 2000. In her free time, she loved to play Bingo, volunteer with Hospice, and taking trips with her friend, Derel Knepper, to Hawaii, London, Alaska, and the Caribbean. She was also a worthy matron of the Eastern Star and was also a member in the American Legion Auxiliary in Clay Center and Norton, Kansas. Veda was preceded in death by both her parents, her husband, a daughter, Gail, seven sisters, four brothers, and a son-in-law, Cy.
