Obituary of James Haskell McKinley
IN LOVING MEMORY OF
DR. JAMES HASKELL MCKINLEY
Dr. James H. McKinley (Jim) , son of Haskell and Thyra (Gregg) McKinley, was born on January 13, 1942 in Great Falls, Montana and moved to Norton Ks. in 1946. He passed away April 2, 2016 in Norton County, Kansas, at the age of 74.
Dr. James McKinley grew up in Norton, Kansas where he lived on the McKinley Ranch and graduated from the Norton Community High School. He later went on to graduate from Kansas State University where he went on to became a veterinarian. Dr. McKinley had a private veterinarian practice in Topeka, Kansas, where he also worked for the Topeka Zoo. In later years, Dr. McKinley had a private practice in the Scottsdale, Arizona area, before relocating to Costa Rica where he retired. In recent years, Dr. McKinley had moved to Reed Springs, Missouri.
Jim was a huge K-State fan. He enjoyed nature and collecting and identifying mushrooms, traveling and riding horses. He loved all animals, especially dogs and horses. One of his fond memories is of the discovery of the meteorite that fell north of the McKinley Ranch when he was a boy in 1948.
Survivors include: one son, Grant McKinley; one daughter, Jennifer Grasland; two grandchildren; three nieces, Teri Arnold, Shawna Engelsman and Roxane Blake and a nephew, Randy Mckinley and other relatives and friends.
Dr. McKinley was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Robert McKinley, one sister, Patsy Means.
