Merlin Menagh was a wonderful mentor to me while I served in the Nebraska Dept. of Education in the Administrative Services and School Accreditation division in 1971 thru 1973.
We traveled across Nebraska dealing with school accreditation school visitations. Ralph Gray and Jerry Decker and I (Jerry Rutherford) were team members.
Merlin always provide positive leadership to us as well as his professional approach to dealing with the various Board of Educations that we reported to after each school district visitation.
Merlin was the kindness man I think I have ever met. I was very young but he gave me so much of his time to help me become a valuable team player.
Hopefully, this note will be sent to you as Merlin's kids. I was sincerely blessed to know Merlin and Betty. Merlin was so naturally a great friend!!! Heaven is singing his praises. (Found his obit just today as my wife Debbie & I were talking about him

As a new employee at NDE in 1972, Merlin was one of the welcoming smiles I encountered. He had all of us in his oversight and when I came to work bandaged after a table saw accident, he was the first to stop by my cubicle with a drawing of his favorite push stick. I remain a careful woodworker today.
I offer my condolences to the broad family who had the good fortune to enjoy his life.

The obituary is so correct when it says MC was always there to lend a helping hand and that he lived his life to the fullest. He was a very special person and he and Betty were a special couple. We were so happy that they enjoyed so much their beautiful home on the lake for so many years. And to think they may have never found that piece of Heaven if they hadn't suggested that we go there camping. (Of course for the first year they "camped out" in a resort.) I had told them so many times about the fun I had going there every year that they decided they really needed to check it out for themselves. Besides having the lake on which to use their pontoon, MC was able to use his construction skills and his people skills to help his church and the kid's ranch, and he enjoyed both. Our fond memories of MC and Betty will live forever for us. Best wishes to you all.

I started working at the Nebraska State Department of Education in September, 1979 as Cathy Morin-Corbett (MC nicked name Mable, Mabe for short) and was assigned to the Approval and Accreditation Team where I met my best co-worker friend ever. MC always had time to answer my questions and help me learn. He always had time for a story or a joke and every morning he and Verl Scott would work on the jumble puzzle as they started their day. He was always kind and caring and showed genuine interest in everyone. He was a missed source of knowledge and fun when he retired. As a retirement gift, to me, he willed his wooden hanging that had hung in his cubicle entitled: Nobody is Perfect. I still have it hanging in my cubicle after 19 years and think of him every time I look at it. My thoughts and prayers are with the family. Both MC and Betty were very special people.

Merlin will always hold a special place in my heart. I have wonderful memories of him, my favorite being when I lost my glasses and after looking everywhere to no avail, "Papa" as I lovingly called him, asked me what was the matter, so while standing right in front of him I told him I'd lost my glasses and had looked everywhere for them...but I said " I think I just found them" and then I added " guess where they are? He smiled at me and said "on my face", then we both busted out laughing! I said how about I go get your glasses and you can give me mine back and then we can both see better! He agreed! I used to tell him he had the best smile and that no matter what kind of day I was having it was always a great one when he smiled. Rest in peace Papa knowing you lived a full and fantastic life. Give Ms. Betty a hug for me. Forever loved! Allie
