Obituary of Claire E. "Shorty" Kahler
IN LOVING MEMORY OF
CLAIRE E. "SHORTY" KAHLER
Claire E. "Shorty" Kahler, son of Theodore and Ruth (Frislie) Kahler, was born April 24, 1924, in Rutland, South Dakota, and passed away at the Andbe Home in Norton, Kansas, on September 24, 2015, at the age of 91.
Shorty grew up in the Rutland community where he attended the local schools graduating from Rutland High School. He also obtained a Bachelor's Degree from Ottawa University and a Master's Degree from Kansas State University. He was a retired music teacher and piano technician. On April 16, 1943, Shorty and Betty (King) were united in marriage in Sioux City, Iowa. His love of music and teaching took them to many communities in Kansas, South Dakota, and Arizona.
Shorty loved music and served as church choir director for many years. He and his wife were avid bridge players and he also enjoyed golfing and shooting pool (winning.)
Survivors include: his wife, Betty Kahler, Norton; three daughters, Jane Boys, Manhattan, Kansas; Janet and husband, Rick LeBlanc, Justin, Texas; and Kit and husband, Mark Krehbiel, Norton; seven grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
Shorty was preceded in death by his parents and infant daughter, Mary.
