I was saddened to hear of Claire Kahler's death. I was Superintendent of Schools for many of the years that Claire was our high school music teacher. He is still remembered here as one of the best teachers we have had, and we worked hard to try to convince him to stay here when he left. He told me one time that, just as he always tried to leave the audience wanting more at the end of a concert, he also wanted to leave the community wanting more at the time he moved on. Truly, a professional educator who had an impact on many students and many communities! Carl M. Werner, Retired Superintendent, St. Francis

I was saddened to read of Claire's death in the Salina Journal. I was the Inter-related Special Ed teacher in St. Francis, KS when he was the band teacher/director here. Three children of mine were fortunate to have band under his direction. I called each of them to let them know of his passing; they spoke of him with fondness and great respect. Mike played trumpet and said that he thinks of him every time he watches Mr. Holland's Opus. Tim played tuba and refers to him as The Music Man. Eva played French horn and was the drum major for marching band. She said that she thinks of him everyday in her classroom. She teaches music in Clearwater, KS. He will be remembered with love and respect. My best wishes to you.

Betty, Jane, Jan & Kit,
I was sorry to hear of the passing of Mr. K.
I missed out on having him as a music instructor. If I had had him, I'd probably @ least be able to carry a tune in a bucket now!
Shorty was an inspiration to so many. Remember that.

To Betty and family: I offer my condolences to you and your family on the death of Mr. Kahler, a man I greatly respected. He's up in the beyond directing heaven's band with my Dad at C melody sax and Mom on the piano. What a wonderful sight in my minds eye!
