Obituary of Gilbert Flax

IN LOVING MEMORY OF GILBERT FLAX Gilbert Flax, son of Frank and Catherine Flax, was born June 1, 1930, in Ransom, KS, and passed away at the Good Shepherd Nursing Home in Blair, NE, on November 16, 2012, at the age of 82. Gilbert grew up in the Ransom community and attended the local school. On November 9, 1954, Gilbert married Seraphina Catherine Leiker in Munjor, KS. They made their home on a farm near Clayton, KS, where they farmed and raised their two daughters. In 1997, they retired and moved to Norton. Gilbert's wife, Seraphina, passed away December 19, 2007, and he later moved to Blair, NE, to be near his family. Gilbert was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church in New Almelo and later the St. Francis Catholic Church after moving to Norton. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus. Survivors include: two daughters and their husbands, Gladys and Mark Nelson, Herman, NE; Linda and Gary Kaus, Manhattan, KS; four grandchildren, Jessica, and husband, Lance Nuttelman, Omaha, NE; Chad Nelson, Herman, NE; Lisa, and husband, Joshua Umbehr, Wichita, KS; Aaron, and wife, Courtney Kaus, Olathe, KS; six great-grandchildren, Katelyn, Paige, and Cole Umbehr, Keaton and Kennedy Kaus, and Addison Nuttelman; two brothers, Alfred, and wife, Ida Flax, Wichita, KS; Paul Flax, Hill City, KS; two step-brothers, Leonard, and wife, Dorothy Weber, Ellis, KS; George, and wife, Charlotte Weber, Wichita, KS; three sisters, Albertina Fehrenbach, Ness City, KS; Agnes, and husband, Edwin Richmeier, Collyer, KS; Rosie, and husband, Walt Hicks, Plano, TX; one step-sister, Virginia Robinette, Wellington, KS; other relatives and many friends. Gilbert was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, two sisters, Minnie and Catherine Flax, brother-in-law, Frank Fehrenbach, step-brother-in-law, Danny Robinette, and sister-in-law, Dolores Flax. Rosary services will be held Monday, November 19, 2012, at 6:30 p.m. at the Enfield Funeral Home in Norton. A memorial has been established to the St. Francis Assisi Catholic Church.
