Obituary of Walter Irvin Hazlett

IN LOVING MEMORY OF WALTER HAZLETT Walter Irvin Hazlett, the youngest of nine children born to Charles and Gertrude (Hines) Hazlett, born February 5, 1925, on the family farm in rural Norton County, Kansas, and passed away at St. Luke's Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri, on May 19, 2011, at the age of 86. Walter grew up southwest of Norton, where he attended the Fairmont school and farmed. On October 18, 1953, he married Juanita Tyson in Kansas City, Kansas. They made their home southwest of Norton where they farmed together and raised two children, Dan and Joyce. His wife, Juanita, passed away March 11, 1978. He later married Ann Webb on April 7, 1979. They made their home in Norton until Ann's death, August 24, 2010. Walter enjoyed farming and raising livestock and worked for many years at the West Sale Barn in Norton. He loved all animals, especially cattle, horses and his cat, Hannah, and liked helping with 4-H and participating in the Norton Saddle Club. Walter was active in the Norton community, serving on several boards including the Co-op and the Norton School Board. He loved life and people, dancing, league bowling, and auctions. Survivors include: his son, Dan Hazlett, of Norton; his daughter, Joyce Quinn and Larry Nelson, Almena, Kansas; two grandchildren, Christa, and husband, Brandon Prideaux, Seattle, Washington; Casey Quinn, Ft. Collins, Colorado; one great-grandchild, Jaden Prideaux; many nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends. Walter was preceded in death by his parents, his wives, Juanita and Ann, two sisters, Lena and Irene, and six brothers, Harold, Lawrence, Cecil, Lester, Glen, and Verle. Memorials may be made to Walter Hazlett Memorial Fund.
