Obituary of Earl Franklin Holbrook

IN LOVING MEMORY OF EARL F. HOLBROOK Earl Franklin Holbrook, son of Clarence and Ada (Randall) Holbrook, was born July 9, 1926, in Agra, Kansas, and passed away at the Norton County Hospital in Norton, Kansas, on February 27, 2010, at the age of 83. Earl grew up in the Agra, Kansas, community and attended the local grade and high schools. He served as a baker in the U.S. Navy during World War II and following his discharge in 1946, he came to Norton where he worked in the Moline Bakery. On December 3, 1950, Earl and Helen Mechsner were united in marriage in Norton, where they raised three sons. In 1971, they purchased the bakery. Earl was in the bakery business for 50 years before his retirement in 1995. Earl was a member of the St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Norton. Survivors include: his wife, Helen Holbrook, Norton; one son, David Holbrook, Scott City, Kansas; two brothers, Robert Holbrook, of Nebraska; Arnold Holbrook, of Oklahoma; one brother-in-law, Ken, and wife, Brit Mechsner, San Gabriel, California; four sisters, Mildred Gibson, Cozad, Nebraska; Delva and husband, Don Bauman, Pawnee City, Nebraska; Ethel Weems, McPherson, Kansas; Nada and husband, Bill Craig, Meade, Kansas; two sisters-in-law, Wanda Mechsner, Norton; Peggy Holbrook, of Arizona; many nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sons, Dennis and Jimmy, four brothers, Raymond, Glenn, Oville, and Owen, and two sisters, Ruby and Dorothy. Memorials may be made to Norton County Hospital, Hospice Services of Norton County, and the American Cancer Society.
