Obituary of Ethel May Miller
IN LOVING MEMORY OF
ETHEL M. MILLER
Ethel May Miller, mother of Nancy Schmidt, of Sharon Springs, passed away at the Andbe Home in Norton, Kansas, on February 7, 2011, at the age of 91.
Ethel was the daughter of Harry W. and Alma (Rist) Smith, born June 12, 1919, on the Smith homestead southwest of Norcatur, Kansas. She attended rural grade school and graduated from the Norcatur High School in 1937. On December 21, 1940, she married Vernon O. Miller in Oberlin, Kansas. They made their home on the Smith family homestead where they farmed until Vernon's death on February 3, 1988. Ethel remained on the farm until August of 1993, at which time she moved into Norcatur and later to the Norton Manor. In October 2008, she became a resident of the Andbe Home in Norton.
Ethel was a member of the Norcatur United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women. She was a member of the Rebekah Lodge and the Royal Neighbors and enjoyed quilting in her spare time.
Survivors include: three children and their spouses, Nancy and Gary Schmidt, Sharon Springs, Kansas; Sherry and Greg Pope, Prescott, Arizona; Mick and Colette Miller, Norton; eight grandchildren, Frank Schmidt, Mike and Erin Schmidt, Gary and Christina Schmidt, all of Colorado Springs, Colorado; Ricky and Lori Pope, Marble Falls, Texas; Michelle (Pope) and John Gilbert, Tucson, Arizona; Heather (Pope) and Joe Suica, Conway, Pennsylvania; Ashley (Miller) and Phil Maloley, Holdrege, Nebraska; Brock and Jennifer Miller, Norton; 21 great-grandchildren; one sister, Anetta Knapp, Norton; special nephew, Marty and wife, Sharron Smith, Lenora, Kansas; other relatives and friends.
Ethel was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her infant son, Vernon O. Miller, Jr., two sisters, Vera Van Gundy and Clara (in infancy.)
A memorial has been established to the lift fund at the Andbe Home in Norton.
