Obituary of Alta May Van Gundy

IN LOVING MEMORY OF ALTA MAY VAN GUNDY Alta May (Huff) Van Gundy, daughter of Noah Emery and Martha L. (Applegate) Huff, was born January 31, 1905, in rural Devizes, Kansas, and passed away at the Andbe Home in Norton, Kansas, on January 21, 2011, at the age of 105. Alta May grew up in the Devizes/Lyle community and attended the Lyle school. She also attended LPN training in Nebraska. She made her home in several communities including Sutton, Nebraska; Redding, California; and Hastings, Nebraska; before returning to the Norton area. She was married to O.J. May and later married Sam Van Gundy in Redding, California, in 1987. She was a reflexologist and also joined her husband, Sam, in making liniments. Alta May was a member of the Church of the Nazarene and enjoyed flowers and gardening. Survivors include: one cousin, Margie Applegate, Norton; several nieces and nephews who are the children of her brothers, Leland, Glenn, and Duane; other relatives and friends. Alta May was preceded in death by her parents, her two husbands, one sister, Hazel, and five brothers, Ray, Leland, Frank, Glenn, and Duane. Memorials may be made to Alta May Van Gundy Memorial Fund.
