Obituary of Max Francis Schmitz
IN LOVING MEMORY
MAX FRANCIS SCHMITZ
Max Francis Schmitz, son of Michael J. and Bertha Mae (Corneilson) Schmitz, was born June 10, 1918, in rural Stockton, Kansas and passed away at the Logan Manor, Logan, Kansas, on January 16, 2011, at the age of 92.
He grew up and attended school in rural Stockton, Kansas. On September 27, 1941, Mabel L. (Davis) and Max were united in marriage in the Stockton, Kansas St. Thomas Catholic Church. Max served in the Army 23rd General Hospital Division as Corporal Medical N.C.O. from 1942 to 1945. They lived in Plainville, Kansas before moving to Norton, Kansas where Max was employed by Safeway and Kelling's grocery stores as a meat cutter. He also managed the Norton Commons Apartment Complex.
He was a member of Norton St Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, a lifetime charter member of the Stockton Monroe-Taylor-Barnes VFW Post 8873, Knights of Columbus, American Legion and the U.C.T. He enjoyed fishing, bingo, cards and dancing.
Survivors include three daughters: Dr. Beverly Schmitz Glass and husband Bruce of Garden City, Kansas, Denise Schmitz, and Betty F. Schmitz Rossouw and husband Paul, Norton, Kansas; sisters, Charolotte Stone and husband Andy of Pueblo, Colorado, Wanda Saunders and husband Jim of Phoenix, Arizona, and Bernice Schmitz of Plainville, Kansas; two granddaughters, Shelley A. Ritter of Hill City, Kansas, and Marietjie Pretorius and husband Marius, of Johannesburg, South Africa; two grandsons, Christopher Smith, Tulsa Oklahoma, and Patrick Smith and wife Bridget of Redding, Wyoming; five great grandsons; other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mabel; son, Michael; daughter, Kaye, and three brothers, Raymond and wife Clare, Paul and wife Georgia, Stan; and a brother-in-law John Trammel.
