Obituary of Geneva Berry
IN LOVING MEMORY OF
GENEVA BERRY
Geneva Berry, daughter of Carl and Francis (Dieterich) Beckman, was born October 13, 1930, on the family farm southeast of Lenora, Kansas, and passed away at the Norton County Hospital in Norton, Kansas, on December 27, 2010, at the age of 80.
Geneva grew up in the North Star neighborhood and attended the North Star rural grade school. She graduated from the Lenora High School and attended secretarial school in Kansas City for one year. On September 17, 1950, Geneva and J.C. "Joe" Berry were united in marriage at the Christian Church in Norton. They made their home in Norton before moving to Lenora where they custom harvested and farmed for many years. In addition, Geneva enjoyed working for Rural Telephone and serving as Lenora City Clerk. Following their retirement, they returned to Norton.
Geneva was a member of the United Parish Church in Lenora, had served on the Chancel and Memorial committees, and helped design the banner at the church. She was a member of the Eastern Star and had held offices at the local and state levels. She was a member of the Lenora High School Alumni, the Republican County Committee, and had served as a precinct committeewoman. She was a member of the FCE and had served on the Library Board and as a Girl Scout Leader.
Survivors include: her husband, Joe Berry, of their home in Norton; one son and his wife, Steve and Joni Berry, Lenora; one daughter and her husband, Janet and David Oswalt, Lenexa, Kansas; six grandchildren, Amanda (Berry) and Robert Gray, Kayla Berry and friend, Terry Mathis, Anna and James Berry, Nathan and Renee Oswalt; one great-grandson, Chase Gray; one brother and his wife, Calvin and Iva Beckman, Lenora; other relatives and many friends.
Geneva was preceded in death by her parents, one son, Tim Joe Berry, and one brother, Alvin Beckman.
Memorials may be made to Lenora United Parish Church and the American Heart Association.
