Obituary of E. Kay LeBeau

IN LOVING MEMORY OF E. KAY LeBEAU Elma Kay LeBeau, was born the daughter of Elmer and Katherine (Donnelly) Hall, on March 5, 1942, in rural Graham County, Kansas, and passed away at the Andbe Home in Norton, Kansas, on October 22, 2020, at the age of 78. Kay grew up on the family farm northwest of Hill City, Kansas, where she attended grade school through the 8th grade in Penokee, Kansas. She graduated from the Hill City High School with the class of 1959. On June 7, 1959, Kay married Walter “Red” LeBeau, at the Congregational Church in Lenora, Kansas. Their first home was near Dellvale, Kansas, and they later moved to their farm northwest of Norton where they raised their family and farmed. Kay was a member of the St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church and Altar Society in Norton. Kay waited tables at the café in Reager, Kansas, becoming an awesome cook especially of homemade pies and fried chicken with all the fixins. Kay was an aide at the Norton County Hospital for a few years before raising her family became priority. In 1976, Kay became the children’s librarian at the Norton Library. She became the Director of the library in 1983, and was instrumental in the getting the new library. Kay definitely had a passion for reading and loved assisting patrons with their books and research projects. Kay retired in 2009. The love of her life was Walt. They were a happy, loving couple, opening their home to many people and friends. Everyone was welcome at Walt and Kay’s dinner table. They had a love for dancing together and enjoyed leading grand marches at wedding dances in Norton and surrounding counties. They even traveled out of state to do a few. Kay was an avid pitch player and loved board games with her family, especially her grandkids and great-grandkds. Survivors include: four children, John LeBeau, Houston, Texas; Susan (Frank) Hillebrand, Clayton, Kansas; Bradley (Tami) LeBeau, Norton; and Gordon (Terri) LeBeau, Forney, Texas; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; other relatives and many friends. Kay was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and an infant daughter, Angela. Visitation for Kay will be Tuesday, October 27, 2020, from 5 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Enfield Funeral Home in Norton. A rosary service will be held Tuesday evening at 7:00 p.m. also at the funeral home. Graveside service and interment will be Wednesday, October 28th, at 2:00 p.m. at the Norton Cemetery. Memorials have been established to the Norton Public Library and St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church.
