Obituary of Dona Maxine Roberts

IN LOVING MEMORY OF DONA M. ROBERTS Dona Maxine (Wiltfong) Roberts was born October 17, 1927, at her parent's home south of Dellvale, Kansas. She was the daughter of Leslie and Effie (Higgins) Wiltfong. Dona passed away at the Lawrence Memorial Hospital on December 26, 2010, at the age of 83. Dona grew up on the family farm in the Dellvale and Edmond area. She attended rural grade schools District 95 and District 98 in Norton County. She attended two years at Lenora High School and the last two years at Norton Community High School. Upon graduation, she attended summer school at Ft. Hays University and received her teaching certificate. She taught one year in Norton County at the Dallas school district. The following summer she began working for Horney's Appliance. Later she took a job at the First Security Bank in Norton, where she worked for 33 years until her retirement in 1992. Dona married Lolan Roberts on December 6, 1946, in Norton. They made their home in Norton and were married for 43 years before his death December 4, 1989. Dona was a member of the United Methodist Church and the Norton American Legion Auxiliary. She was an avid KU fan and watched most of their games on TV. Dona is survived by two children: one son, Gary, and his wife, Melva Roberts, Lawrence, Kansas; one daughter, Connie, and her husband, Jim Green, Norton; four grandsons, Brett and Chris Roberts, Lawrence; Nicholas Green, Hays, Kansas; Jason Green, Houston, Texas; four brothers, Eugene, and wife, Maxine Wiltfong, Glen and wife, Elinor Wiltfong, all of Norton; Gerald and wife, Donna Wiltfong, Phillipsburg, Kansas; Max Wiltfong, Tempe, Arizona; two sisters-in-law, Betty Wiltfong and Charlotte Roberts, both of Norton; many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Dona was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Lolan, her granddaughter, Cathy Roberts, and her brother, Harold Wiltfong. Memorials may be made to Bieber Cottages in Norton.
