Obituary of Freda M. Weyand

IN LOVING MEMORY OF FREDA M. WEYAND Freda Mae Weyand, was born February 12, 1937, on the family homestead in Menlo, Kansas, and passed away at the Salina Regional Health Care Center in Salina, Kansas, on August 5, 2020, at the age of 83. Freda was the 10th of 12 children born to her parents, Ray and Eva (Moos) Duffey. Freda grew up on the family homestead in the Menlo community where she graduated from the Menlo High School. She went on to attend the Stormont-Vail Nursing School in Topeka, Kansas, graduating with the class of 1958. On September 20, 1958, she married her life-long sweetheart, Gerald Weyand, in Seattle, Washington, where Gerald was stationed in the U.S. Navy. Following his military discharge, they made their home in Pueblo, Colorado, and Lehigh, Kansas. Gerald joined the Kansas Highway Patrol and served in Valley Center, Kansas, for one year and was then transferred to Norton in 1963. Freda worked as a surgical nurse in the Norton County Hospital and worked for a year at the Norton State Hospital. She returned to the Norton County Hospital and later at the Doctor's Clinic where she worked until her retirement in 1999. Freda was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Norton and the Heritage Quilt Club. She and Gerald also enjoyed trips to the casino following her retirement. Freda had a great love for people and worried about her patients upon her retirement. Her greatest joy in life was her family, raising her children and enjoying precious time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Survivors include: her husband, Gerald Weyand, of their home in Norton; one daughter, Carla (Richard) Miller, Russell, Kansas; two sons, Curt (Michelle) Weyand, Manhattan, Kansas; Craig Weyand, and fiancee, Misty Heller, Salina, Kansas; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren with one more on the way; one brother, Cleo Duffey, Colby, Kansas; four sisters, Nina Brandt, Brownsburg, Indiana; Bernita (Mike) Gawith, Oberlin, Kansas; Leoma Steiger, Oakley, Kansas; Loreda (Robert) Wagner, LaCrosse, Kansas; many nieces and nephews; other relatives and many friends. Freda was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and four sisters. VISITATION – Sunday, August 9, 2020 – 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. PLACE – Enfield Funeral Home – 215 W.
