The last time I saw Dick Boyd is captured in this picture. What a great man he was. A great fan of Bluejay Athletics. I hadn't seen Dick in 23 years, since I left Norton. I was standing with a couple of my old players when he walked up that night in 2015. I said "Hi, Dick!" and he was puzzled. Paul Wendel said "Dick, this is Coach Melillo." Dick answered "You're not Neil Melillo - I know Neil." I had aged badly and had a full beard, and I reminded Dick of how he had nearly gotten thrown out of the game at Beloit one night, and that big broad smile crossed his face and he remembered, and we hugged each other and laughed.
Dick was a man who loved kids, loved Norton, and loved the competition of Bluejay Athletics. He will be missed more than anyone can imagine.
Barbara and I want to make sure to tell the Boyd family how deeply saddened we are over the death of Dick. God rest his joyous soul.

Hello Neil and Barbara,
Thank you so much for the sweet message you left here and for the beautiful flower arrangement in Bluejay blue and gold! Both meant so much to Mom and Larry and me. We feel a huge loss. Dad meant so much to us as a family and we will miss him. He really loved those years when you were here coaching and teaching - a heyday for Norton! I have fond memories of my English lessons with you Neil! Tribute paper is this week - we can send one if you send your address?

Dick never meet a stranger and he was the voice of Norton through his leadership, words and community commitment. I shared with him a few years ago the positive influence he was to me and I am sure there are countless others that he influenced in a positive manner.
Please accept our sincere condolences for your loss!
