Obituary of John Charles Horak
IN LOVING MEMORY OF
JOHN C. HORAK
John Charles Horak, son of Charles Frederick and Elsie (Nemec) Horak, was born October 5, 1925, in Munden, Kansas, and passed away at the Norton County Hospital in Norton, Kansas, on December 22, 2010, at the age of 85.
John grew up in Munden, attended the Mt. Erie Rural Grade School, and graduated from the Munden High School. Following his graduation, he served in the U.S. Navy for two-and-a-half years. On August 21, 1947, John married Juanita Murphy in Munden. They made their home in Munden for seven years before moving to Belleville, Kansas. In 1956, they moved to Norton where John was a depot agent for the Rock Island Railroad and later the Kyle Railroad.
John was a member of the First United Methodist Church and Methodist Men in Norton, Harmonson-Redd American Legion Post #63, Norton Lions Club, Masonic Lodge, and had served on the Norton Public Library board and the Norton school board.
Survivors include: his wife, Juanita, of their home in Norton; two daughters and their husbands, Lana and Patrick Hutchens, Eudora, Kansas; Shari and Greg Coleman, Wilber, Nebraska; one son, Terry Horak, and friend, Shelley Saunders, Pawleys Island, South Carolina; four sisters, Sylvia, and husband, Ray Weaver, Belleville, Kansas; Marcie, and husband, Ben Holloway, Narka, Kansas; Ruby Eickmann, Ozawkie, Kansas; and Donna, and husband, Ed Stehno, Hays, Kansas; four grandchildren, Johnathon Hutchens and friend, Jennifer Searcy, Jacqueline Hutchens, Jennifer Gibbs, and husband, Dave, Chelsey Young, and husband, Barry; three great-grandchildren, Christine and Andrew Gibbs, and Brock Young; other relatives and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Judy Smith, and one brother-in-law, Glen "Pete" Eichmann.
Graveside services will be held Monday, December 27, 2010 at 3:00 PM at the Bellville City Cemetery in Belleville, KS.
The family requests that memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church Ministries and Missions Fund and/or the Norton County Hospital.
