Obituary of Aleta Brooks
IN LOVING MEMORY OF
ALETA BROOKS
Aleta Faith (Guthrie) Brooks, daughter of Art and Nelle (Jones) Guthrie, was born May 15, 1936 in rural Norton County and died at the Norton County Hospital in Norton on January 13, 2020 at the age of 83.
She started school at the District 19 country school. She later attended grade school, junior high and part of high school in Almena. She graduated from Norton Community High School in 1954.
Aleta and Don Leon Brooks were married by Leland Griffin on January 17, 1966 at the Norton Christian Church. They lived all of their married life in Norton where they raised their two girls.
Aleta and her parents were custodians at the Norton Christian Church. She worked that job for many years and loved the church always. She was a talented seamstress, an animal lover, a constant reader, and most of all, a devoted mother.
She is survived by her husband, Don Brooks, Norton; two daughters, Laura Leigh Brooks, Norton and Amy Brooks Couch and husband Rob Couch, Parker, Colorado; a grandson, Brewer Guthrie Couch; a granddaughter, Julia Faith Couch; and one sister, Marilyn Spear Johnson and husband Don Johnson, Plainville.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Lyman Guthrie; a sister, Carol Guthrie Wingert; parents-in-law Frank and Velma Brooks; and three nephews: Greg Wingert, Gary Guthrie and Brian Spear.
Visitation will be from 4-7 pm on Friday, January 17 at Enfield Funeral Home in Norton.
Funeral services will be held at 2 pm on Saturday, January 18 at Enfield Funeral Home. Interment will follow at the Norton Cemetery.
Memorials in honor of Aleta may be donated to the Cancer Research Institute at cancerresearch.org.
