Obituary of Gordon L. Fought
IN LOVING MEMORY OF
GORDON FOUGHT
Gordon Fought, son of Theodore and Winnifred (Davis) Fought, was born July 17, 1919, in Oronoque, Kansas, and passed away at the Norton County Hospital in Norton, Kansas, on November 9, 2010, at the age of 91.
Gordon attended the Oronoque school before moving with his family to a farm northwest of Lenora. He then attended the District #30 rural school and graduated from the Lenora High School in 1937. On November 1, 1942, he married Creta Mae Chase and to this union three children were born. They made their home on the farm until 1945, when they moved to Norton where he worked for Vancura and Son John Deere dealership. In 1952, they moved to Oberlin where Gordon worked for Nitsch and Nitsch until 1956, when they returned to Norton. They bought into the John Deere business at that time and he stayed there for 28 years. In 1974, they sold the business and Gordon went to work for Rowh Motor Company car dealership where he worked until his retirement in 1982.
Gordon was a member of the Norton Christian Church where he served as a Deacon and Elder for 30 years. He had been active with the youth groups and had served on many committees including the building committee for 17 years and had served as a church Trustee. He also served on the board of Manhattan Christian College for six years. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, I.O.O.F., and the Norton Lions Club.
Survivors include: his wife, Creta Mae, of their home in Norton; two sons, Don, and wife, Vicki Fought, Winston-Salem, North Carolina; Jim, and wife, Tina Fought, Park City, Utah; one son-in-law, Bob, and wife, Sabine Schnelle, Johnson City, Tennessee; seven grandchildren, Lanette, Deric, Kathleen, Kelly, Adam, Tyler, and Austin; 13 great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
Gordon was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, Melba Schnelle, two brothers, Wayne and Warren, and one sister, Juanita.
