Obituary of Marcella Swaggerty

IN LOVING MEMORY OF

MARCELLA A. SWAGGERTY

Marcella Allec Swaggerty, age 89, passed from this life to her heavenly home on Sunday, September 30, in Colby, Kansas.

Marcella, or Mari, lived her whole life loving others, especially her own family of four children, Rich Swaggerty, Karen Hootman, Steve (Raina) Swaggerty, and Joan (Dave) Brown. She was the proud grandmother of 11 grandchildren Scott Swaggerty, Dawn Witt, Heather (Derek) Head, Whitney (Jason) Sullivan, Mike (Katie) Swaggerty, Jillian (Joash) Clines, Matthew (Cristina) Swaggerty, Gabrielle, David, Andrea, and Rachel Browne. She also was great grandmother to 20. Mari was born and raised in Placentia, California on the family orange grove to parents Eugene and Cecelia Allec along with her three sisters and four brothers, the late Cecelia (Chet) Hart, Eugenia (Tom) O'Hanlon, the late Celestine (Peggy) Allec, the late Germaine (Frank) Purpura, the late Joe (Lucinda) Allec, Dave (Donna) Allec, and Mike Allec.

Mari married and moved to Michigan where she raised her four children. She graduated from Fullerton Junior College and worked in administrative capacities in the Cherry Hill School District in Inkster, MI, retiring in 1991. She relished her role as mom, grandma, and great grandma with thoughtfulness, generosity, and especially a fantastic sense of humor that made her beloved to her family and all that she came in contact with. She especially loved the Lord, setting a great example of prayer, care, and selflessness. Mari lived in Kansas for the last 25 years of her life, and as her years drew to a close she lived at the Prairie Senior Living Complex and was cared for by her loving daughter Joan. Mom filled her room with faith, laughter, and would always find both the good and the humor in almost every situation. She will be missed.

Survivors include: four children, Gerald Swaggerty, Karen Hootman, Steven Swaggerty, and Joan Browne; two brothers, David Allec and Michael Allec; one sister, Eugenia O'Hanlon; 11 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; several other relatives and friends.

Mari was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, and two sisters.
