Obituary of Delores C. Stapp

IN LOVING MEMORY OF

DELORES C. (MCCULLOCK) STAPP

 

 

Delores Christine Stapp was born on May 15, 1942, to Lewis and Christine (Spor) McCullock in Hydro, Oklahoma.  Delores passed away on April 1, 2018, at the Andbe Home, Norton, Kansas, at the age of 75.

            Delores was the middle child of five raised on the family farm where she learned to sew, cook, care for animals and her love of reading.  She attended the Hydro Public Schools and upon graduation entered Southwestern State College (now Southwestern Oklahoma University), Weatherford, Oklahoma obtaining her Bachelor of Science in Business Education with a minor in Home Economics.  During her time in college, Delores worked as a nanny to assist with the expenses of her education.   Upon graduation Delores accepted a teaching position at Norcatur High School where she taught business classes. 

            Delores met Rodney Stapp in Norcatur and they married in 1965.  To this union two daughters were born.  They made their home in Norcatur until 1976, when Delores and Rodney moved to Norton when Delores became a cataloger at NorthWest Kansas Library System, a position she held until her retirement.

            Delores was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday School classes for several years.  She enjoyed her time working with the American Cancer Society and the Norton County Election Board. 

            Delores enjoyed reading, walking and attending the activities of her children.  She thrived as a grandmother instilling a love of reading in her grandchildren and a sense of curiosity.    Every fall Delores "Gram" looked forward to hearing the NCHS marching band practice and watching them perform at Travis Field.  She enjoyed countless piano recitals, school programs, sporting events and monthly lunches with grandchildren at the elementary school.

            Survivors include:  daughters, Janelle Morel, Norton;  LeAnn (Jim) Hansen, Wichita; four grandchildren, Amanda Hands, Lexington, KY; Joseph Hansen, Wichita; Kylie (Monte) Honas, Ellis; and Tanner Morel, Hays; great-grandchildren, Camden Honas and Brenna Honas, Ellis;  sisters, Mary Ellen (Wayne) Uptergrove, California City, CA; Laurene Carol McCullock, Cordell, OK; brother, Larry (Darlene) McCullock, Norman, OK; brothers-in-law, Larry (Marcia) Stapp, Holcomb;  Garry (Shirley) Stapp, Ord, NE; sister-in-law, Debbie McCullock, Hydro, OK; several other relatives and friends.

            Delores was preceded in death by husband, Rodney Stapp, parents, Lewis and Christine McCullock; brother, John McCullock; in-laws, Donald and Goldie Stapp.

 

FUNERAL SERVICE – Friday, April 6, 2018 – 1:30 p.m.

INURNMENT – Norcatur Cemetery – Norcatur, KS

MEMORIAL – Immanuel Lutheran Church and Norton Public Library

VISITATION – Thursday, April 5, 2018 – 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.
