Obituary of Alice Kuiper
IN LOVING MEMORY OF
ALICE FERN (REEVES) KUIPER
Alice F. (Reeves) Kuiper, beloved daughter of Dr. Arthur and Flora (Wilderman) Reeves, was born on June 9, 1921 in Oberlin, Kansas, and peacefully passed away surrounded by her loving family at the Andbe Home in Norton on January 19, 2018, at the age of 96.
Alice graduated from Almena Rural High School and went on to attend college at Fort Hays State University where she received her Bachelor's Degree. On October 29, 1943, Alice was united in marriage to Jacob Kuiper at her mother's home near Almena. Alice and Jake lived on the family farm southeast of Almena until 1987 when they purchased the house in Almena that her grandfather had built. Alice worked as an elementary school teacher and taught all 8 grades in country schools in Long Island, Prairie View and Almena. In 2008, Alice moved to the Bieber Cottages and later to Whispering Pines before making her final move to the Andbe Home.
Alice was an active member of the United Methodist Church in Almena. She was involved with numerous community activities including, Almena Senior Center, Almena Pride, Almena History, founding the Prairie Dog Press, and delivering Meals on Wheels. Her greatest love was her family, especially her children and grandchildren.
Survivors include: one daughter, Janet, and husband, Richard Porter, Lenora, KS; one son, Ken, and wife, Marla Kuiper, Salina, KS; four grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; several other relatives and friends.
Alice was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Jake; infant daughter, Carol Jean; two brothers, Neil and Ross Reeves; and one sister, Lois Schamber.
Memorial services for Alice will be held on Saturday, March 24, 2018 - 2:00 PM at the United Methodist Church in Almena, Kansas. Memorials can be made out to the Almena Community Center, United Methodist Church in Almena or Andbe Home in Norton, Kansas.
