Obituary of Peggy Mayes
IN LOVING MEMORY OF
PEGGY (WILEY) MAYES
Peggy (Wiley) Mayes, beloved daughter of Abner and Vesta (Redinger) Wiley, was born November 25, 1929 and peacefully passed away at the Logan Manor in Logan, Kansas on November 21, 2017, at the age of 87. Peggy attended school in Logan and graduated with the Class of 1947.
Peggy had a kind heart and was well known for her feeding and sheltering of neighborhood stray cats who soon became Peggy’s cats, and her friends. She delivered the Salina Journal here in Logan for many years. It wasn’t uncommon to see her driving around town in the early hours of morning darkness making her deliveries; many times with her lights turned off so they wouldn’t shine into people’s homes when she turned into their driveways. This was a practice which often startled many early morning walkers.
Peggy was preceded in death by her parents, husband, C.L. “Happy” Mayes, one brother, Arden and one niece, Cindy Wiley.
A graveside inurnment service will be held on Tuesday, May 15, 2018 at 10:30 A.M. at the Pleasant View Cemetery in Logan, Kansas with Pastor Christopher Murphy officiating.
