Obituary of Kathleen Persinger

IN LOVING MEMORY OF

KATHLEEN ARCHER PERSINGER

Kathleen was born October 1, 1925 at her parents home (Homer and Gertrude Wilson) near Logan, KS. She passed away on September 15, 2017 at her apartment in Mission Viejo, CA.

Kathleen grew up on farms managed by her parents. She and her brother Johnnie attend elementary school at Portage in Rook County, Prairie Dale in Graham County, and Deering in Norton County. She attended high school in Stockton, Densmore and in Almena. She was active in Kayettes, school plays and girls basketball in high school.

She married Nyland Archer in November of 1942. They made their home in the Cactus Community southeast of Almena where they farmed and raised 4 sons – Leon, Jim, Steve and Rodney. She was active on the farm, in the Cactus Helping Hand Club, the Jolly Helpers Club, and 4-H leadership. She attended the Cactus Community Free Methodist Church. She worked at Duckwalls in Norton and at the Norton Sales Barn when the kids began to leave for college.

Family time was always a priority. Whether it was working together on the farm – milking the cows, tending the livestock, in the fields, or gathered around the table for meals or for game time – family came first. But like many families, job choice and careers spread the family miles away from the family homestead. It became 4 sons and families, 11 Grandkids, 18 Great-grandkids, and 2 Great-Great Grandkids spread from the East Coast to the West Coast and from the northern border to the southern border of the US.

Kathleen moved to Norton in 1979 after Nyland's death (1977) and after son Rodney was killed in a farm accident in 1979 leaving the running of the family farm to Son Steve. She worked at JC Penney and later at the Prairie Dog State Park. She became active in the Norton Rebekahs, Eagles Auxiliary, and the Home Extension Club.

She met and then in 1984 married Gerald Persinger. They made their home on his farm south of Norton until they retired to Mesa, Arizona. During their "retirement years", they enjoyed traveling and visited many states including Alaska and Hawaii, cruised the Panama Canal, and made numerous visits into Mexico. Kathleen continued to be an active quilter and enjoyed making gifts of her quilts to her family. She enjoyed ceramics and painting. They had great times playing cards and gathering with their neighbors.

She moved to California after Gerald's death to be close to family and lived in the La Vida Retirement Facility in Mission Viejo, CA.

Surviving family includes: Jim & Marcia (Bieber) Archer of Ladera Ranch, CA and their 4 children and 9 grandchildren; Steve and Cheryl (McCall) Archer of Lake Kiowa, TX and their 2 kids, one grandchild and 2 step grandchildren; Leon's wife Mary, 4 of Leon's children and 7 grandchildren and 2 great grandkids; Stepson Steve Persinger &wife Deb of Norton, KS and Steve's 2 children and a grandchild; Step Daughter Susan Flickner & husband Ray of Wichita, KS, their 2 children and 2 grandchildren.

Preceding her in death were husband Nyland Archer, husband Gerald Persinger, Sons Leon and Rodney Archer, 1 grandson, her parents, and a brother and a sister.
