Obituary of Steven L. Badsky

IN LOVING MEMORY OF STEVEN L. BADSKY Steven Lynn Badsky, age 64, departed his earthly bonds at the Andbe Home in Norton, Kansas, on August 21, 2017, the day of the solar eclipse where he saw the dark side of the moon one last time before his death. Steve was a music lover and an avid Pink Floyd fan, played the guitar, and was a humble artist. His drawings, mostly of wildlife, expressed his love of the outdoors. He also had a fondness for skiing, golf, shooting sports, auto racing, and other cars including the '67 Camaro and Cadillacs. He also enjoyed a good game of cribbage. Steve was born February 25, 1953, at Rocky Mountain Osteopathic Hospital, Denver, Colorado, to parents Dwaine Russell and Lorene Alvina (Wacker) Badsky. He graduated from Hinkley High School, Aurora, Colorado, in 1971. Steve held numerous jobs including working in his father's metal spinning business before attending Front Range Community College on a coveted Rocky Mountain Turfgrass Research Foundation scholarship, attaining an Associates of Applied Science in Horticulture in 1994. He was inducted into the International Honor Society, Phi Theta Kappa in 1993. After graduation, he was the Assistant Superintendent at Fitzsimons Golf Course in Aurora, Colorado, and a member of the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America. He operated his own landscaping business, High Prairie Designs, from 1996 until 2003. Steve then changed course, attending Cambridge College in Aurora, Colorado, and attaining state certification as an X-Ray technician in 2004. He worked until forced to retire a few years later for medical reasons. Steve never tied the knot, but he valued family above all and treated his God Daughter, Jessica Badsky, Tulsa, Oklahoma, as his own. They had a close relationship until his passing, and when Steve could no longer care for his beloved cat Squeaker, Jessica provided her a loving home. Steve was a social, active man, and later in life, as his parents' only child, was deeply involved in home care for both until their deaths. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends and will be remembered as a kind, caring, and deeply patriotic person. Steve is survived by his cousins who were like brothers to him and saw to his care in his last years, Ken and Jan Badsky of Oberlin, Kansas, and Floyd and Evalyn Badsky, Norman, Oklahoma; his cousins Jolene and Eric Stencel, Arvada, Colorado, and Darlene and Thornell Foutner, Denver, Colorado; and his Aunts, Sharon Koepke, Centennial, Colorado, and Nancy and Lyle Engelhardt, Almena, Kansas. His parents, Dwaine and Lorene Badsky, Aurora, Colorado, preceded him in death. Graveside services will be held Saturday, August 26, 2017, at 11:00 a.m. at the Oberlin Cemetery in Oberlin, Kansas. All are welcome to attend the service and celebrate Steve's life. The family requests that memorial donations be made to the Andbe Home in Norton and may be sent to Enfield Funeral Home – 215 W. Main – Norton, KS. The family would also like to thank Ken and Jan Badsky for their devotion to Steve, allowing him to live the last months of his life gracefully and to the Andbe Home in Norton, Kansas, for his care.
