Obituary of Nila Winchell
IN LOVING MEMORY OF
NILA T. (TEMPLE) WINCHELL
Nila Winchell, 94, of Friendship Village of Dayton, Ohio, peacefully passed away February 21, 2017. She was born August 20, 1922 to J.E. (Edd) and Zora Temple of Norcatur, Kansas.
She was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Deane J. Winchell, in January 1984, her sister, Beth Irvin, in 2006, and her parents.
Nila graduated in 1940 from Norcatur High School and was employed at an ammunition plant in Denver until she joined the U.S. Marine Corps in April 1943 to November 1945. Deane and Nila were married in 1946 in Dayton, Ohio. Both graduated from Miami-Jacobs College with business and accounting degrees, 1946-1947. She was employed by Zephyr Ventilated Awning for 13 years. After working at Wright Patterson AFB for 18 years, she retired in March of 1983. Nila was a life member of American Legion Post #668 in Vandalia, Ohio, where she was the commander from 1998-1999.
Nila is survived by her sister, Valena Kaye Fruin, of Mesa, Arizona; two nephews, Greg A. (Kim) Salyer, Ft. Lupton, Colorado, and Scott (Susan) Prestie, of Oceanside, California; four great nephews, Jack, Dennis & Michael Prestie, and Dominick Salyer; one great niece, Heather Salyer; and many cousins & friends.
Nila will be laid to rest with her sister whom she loved dearly, Beth Irvin.
Military graveside inurnment services will be held on Friday, July 21, 2017 at 10:30 A.M. at the Norcatur Cemetery in Norcatur, Kansas.
