Obituary of J.B. Carlton

IN LOVING MEMORY OF J.B. CARLTON J.B. Carlton, son of Glen and Irene (Ward) Carlton, was born January 20, 1948, in Norton, Kansas, and passed away at the Norton County Hospital on September 26, 2010, at the age of 62. J.B. grew up in Norton and attended the Norton schools, graduating from the Norton Community High School with the class of 1966. He served in the U.S. Navy for four years as a Navy Corpsman with the Marines during the Vietnam War, being discharged in 1970. On April 15, 1968, he married Virginia Mapes in Norton. They made their home in Norton where J.B. went to work for the City of Norton on March 8, 1971, and worked there for 39 years, currently holding the position of lineman supervisor. J.B. was a member of the St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church and a member of the Norton City Volunteer Fire Department since August 1971, serving as an officer for several years. Survivors include: his wife, Virginia, of their home in Norton; two sons, Brian, and wife, Amy Carlton, Lakewood, Colorado; and Brent Carlton, Norton; one brother and his wife, Tom and Nancy Carlton, Norton; three sisters, Mary Arehart, Norton; Connie Hendrix, Hays, Kansas; and Loretta, and husband, Bill Ray, Norton; two grandchildren, Bradon and McKenna Carlton; other relatives and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Gerry Urban, and two brothers-in-law, Vernon Urban and Rod Arehart. Memorials may be made to J.B. Carlton Memorial Fund.
