Obituary of Wayne Archer
IN LOVING MEMORY OF
WAYNE E. ARCHER
(August 24, 1939 – February 2, 2017)
Wayne Elmer Archer, 77, of Almena, Kansas passed away Thursday, February 2, 2017, at the Norton County Hospital in Norton, Kansas.
Wayne was born on August 24, 1939, in the home in rural Densmore, Kansas to Claude E. and Ellen M. (Withington) Archer.
He attended grade school in rural Cactus and in Densmore; and then graduated in 1957 from Almena Rural High School in Almena, Kansas.
Wayne was joined in holy matrimony to Sharon Lynne McKown on March 17, 1963 at the First United Methodist Church in Norton, Kansas. Wayne and Shari then made their home on a farm in rural Almena.
After being introduced to farming and raising cattle by his father, his love for agriculture became his lifetime career. Wayne drove the school bus for Northern Valley schools for 35 years and enjoyed all the students on his route, even stopping occasionally at the station on the outskirts of Almena to treat them with a drink or snack on their way home. School activities took him on many trips with students to band days, field trips, and countless football and basketball games.
As a father and grandfather, Wayne delighted in following his children and grandchildren through their many sports activities. He enjoyed hunting and shooting sports; even coaching and supporting the Norton BB Gun teams. He also served with the Almena Fire Department for several years.
Wayne was preceded in death by his father, Claude, and mother, Ellen in 2006, and son in law, David Deines in July 2016.
Survivors include: his wife, Shari, of their home; three children, Shannon Deines, Lee's Summit, MO; Stephanie Archer, Littleton, CO; Cameron Archer and Melanie, Norton, KS; sister, Wava Conrad, Almena, KS; four grandchildren, Cole Archer, Lane Archer, Erin Archer and Sydney Gross.
Memorial services will be held Wednesday, February 8, 2016, at 10:30 A.M. at the First United Methodist Church in Norton, KS. 805 W. Wilberforce St., Norton, KS. Inurnment services will be held at the Norton Cemetery.
