Obituary of Anna LaVerne Milner

IN LOVING MEMORY OF ANNA LaVERNE (BISHOP) MILNER Anna LaVerne (Bishop) Milner, daughter of Arthur and Katie (Ervin) Bishop, was born May 29, 1916, in Norton County, Kansas, and passed away at the Andbe Home in Norton on January 15, 2017, at the age of 100. LaVerne graduated from Rural Rockwell School, from the Norcatur Rural High School in 1933. She went on to receive her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Elementary Eduacation from Colorado State College in 1955. LaVerne also received her Master of Science Degree in Elementary Education from Fort Hays State University in 1957. She spent 47 years in the teaching profession. On November 24, 1949, Anna and Oran Milner were united in marriage. LaVerne and Oran made their home in Norcatur until early 2007, when they moved to Whispering Pines in Norton. LaVerne was a member of the Maple Grove Church, where she worked in the children's department. She was also a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma Zeta Chapter, which is a society of women educators, The Norcatur Civic Club, Norcatur Library Board, a past member of K.S.T.A and N.E.A and also volunteered working for the Norcatur News. Anna enjoyed reading, music, quilting, art and traveling. Survivors include: one nephew, Bruce Bishop; great-nephew, Michael, and wife, Ashlie Bishop; two great-nieces, Kim and Susan Bishop; great-great-niece, Alanna Bishop; her very dear friend, Bee Nelson. LaVerne was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Oran; one brother, Ralph; one sister-in-law, Vera Bishop. FUNERAL SERVICE – Friday, January 20, 2017 – 10:30 A.M.
