Obituary of Melvin H Erhardt

IN LOVING MEMORY OF MELVIN H. ERHARDT Melvin H. Erhardt, son of Frank and Alvina (Nienke) Erhardt, was born May 31, 1926, in Ellsworth, Kansas, and passed away at his home at Whispering Pines on January 4, 2017, at the age of 90. Mel grew up in Ellsworth and graduated from the Ellsworth High School. He served his country in the U.S. Navy, and was a veteran of World War II along with his three brothers. Following his discharge from the Navy, he moved to Norton. On September 22, 1952, Mel and Neva Grace Gnagy were united in marriage in Norton. They made their home in Manhattan, Kansas, before returning to Norton where Mel was employed by Southwestern Bell Telephone until his retirement. His wife, Neva, passed away March 31, 2009. Mel later moved to Whispering Pines where he was loved by all who lived and worked there. Mel was a member of the Harmonson-Redd American Legion Post #63 in Norton, and was very involved with the Shriner's organization. He enjoyed gardening, square dancing, hunting, and fishing. His greatest joy in life was his family. Survivors include: one son, James, and wife, Donna Erhardt, Atlanta, Georgia; two daughters, Jeris Norman, Norton; and JoLene and husband, Rick Mai, SunRise Beach, Missouri; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends. Mel was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, one son-in-law, Dick Norman, three brothers, Elmer, Ralph, and Frank Erhardt, and one sister, Verona Chastain.
