Obituary of Calvin Gill
IN LOVING MEMORY OF
CALVIN LEON GILL
Calvin was born on a farm in Rural Graham County, Kansas on December 21, 1934 to Vernon and Alberta Gill. He attended school in rural Graham County and Norton.
On May 13, 1956 he was united in marriage to Anise Grunert, and were blessed with two children: Cynthia and Timothy.
He served in The United States Army from 1957-1959 most of his service was at Eielson Air Force Base near Fairbanks, Alaska. Anise joined him in Alaska and they were lucky to be living there when Alaska became the 49th state.
Upon his return from the service he worked in construction helping build several schools in the area including Eisenhower Elementary in Norton. He was owner and operator of gravel trucks and followed road construction for ten years. He then worked at the local lumber yard, and in 1975 he joined the maintenance department at Norton State Hospital. In 1987 he became the head of the maintenance department for Norton Correctional facility. He was one of the first to join the staff at the facility and was instrumental in the transition to a correctional facility. He was proud of the accomplishment of converting the Norton State Hospital to a correctional facility. Throughout his life he farmed on the side, and upon his retirement from the correctional facility in 2000 he became a full time farmer.
Calvin enjoyed farming, hunting, fishing, gambling, bus tours, trips to Colorado, and his family.
He is survived by his wife, Anise; his daughter, Cynthia Davis and husband, Don; his son, Timothy Gill and wife, Kelley; Grandchildren, Sarah Davis, Madeline Davis, Tyson Gill and Kailey Gill; Sister, Viola Belden and husband, Wayne; and brother-in-law, Dean Shearer; sister-in-law, Ivalee David; several nieces and nephews; many other relatives and friends.
Calvin was preceded in death by his parents, Vernon Gill, Veryl and Alberta McCall; in-laws, Viola Grunert, Charles and Estella Grunert; one brother, Bonnell Gill; one sister, Nellie Shearer.

VISITATION – Friday, December 2, 2016 –6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M.
