Obituary of Helen Nelson
IN LOVING MEMORY OF
HELEN L. NELSON
Helen L. (Loyd) Nelson, daughter of Ira and Edith (Wood) Loyd, was born February 20, 1925, in Clifton, Kansas, and passed away at the Andbe Home in Norton, Kansas, on November 3, 2016, at the age of 91.
Helen attended schools in Clifton, Clay Center, Ottawa, and Natoma, Kansas. On September 21, 1944, Helen was united in marriage to William J. Nelson in Alameda, California, where he was serving in the Navy during WWII. Bill and Helen made their home in Natoma until 1960, when they moved their family to Johnson, Kansas, where she worked in the Stanton County Treasurer's office and also Nelson Irrigation. In February of 1999, they moved to their home in Norton. Her husband, Bill, passed away June 14, 2015.
Helen had been a Sunday School teacher and attended the First Church of God in Norton. She enjoyed gardening, cooking and doing embroidery, and dearly loved her Scottie dogs and her cats.
Survivors include: four sons, Loyd, and wife, Patricia Nelson, Arvada, Colorado; Larry Nelson. Almena, Kansas; Jon and wife, Rita Nelson, Johnson, Kansas; and James Nelson, Phoenix, Arizona; 11 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents, her step-father, Frank Craig, her husband, and one brother, Warren Loyd, who was killed in action in the South Pacific during World War II.
