Obituary of Raymond M. Rojas

IN LOVING MEMORY OF RAYMOND M. ROJAS Raymond Martinez Rojas, son of Pedro and Susanna (Martinez) Rojas, was born August 9, 1930, in Cameron, Texas, and passed away at the Hays Medical Center in Hays, Kansas, on May 11, 2016, at the age of 85. Raymond grew up in Cameron and San Antonio, Texas, and attended the Nathanial Hawthorne School in San Antonio. On November 8, 1953, Raymond and Mary Morante were united in marriage in San Antonio, where they made their home before moving to Garden City, Kansas, and later Norton, Kansas. To this loving union four children were born. Raymond worked for the Kansas Department of Transportation as a member of the district striping crew for 10 years and also worked part-time at Engel's Sales and Service. He also assisted the Norton Sheriff's Office, Kansas Highway Patrol and various other community and county entities for many years as a Spanish language interpreter. Upon his retirement, Raymond and his family continued the tradition of serving Mexican food in the Norton community for over 40 years. His loving wife, Mary, passed away April 19, 2002. Raymond enjoyed fishing and traveling to the Texas coast to fish but his greatest joy and accomplishments in life were his family. Survivors include: Raymond's companion, Eva Harrington, Norton; four children, Sylvia (DeWayne) Bangle, Lydia (Bobby) Annon, and John Rojas, all of Norton, and Wanda Schlegel (Michael Cox) of Hays, Kansas; 16 grandchildren and 37 great-grandchildren; other extended family and many friends. Raymond was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Bartolo and Pascual Rojas, and twin great-grandsons, Randy and Ryan Berends.
