Obituary of Aletha Rule
IN LOVING MEMORY OF
ALETHA (McCABE) RULE
Aletha Mae (McCabe) Rule was born November 3, 1923 in Norton County to Lowell and Naomi (Ritter) McCabe. She left her earthly life on April 9, 2016 at Hays Medical Center in Hays, KS. She had reached the age of 92 years.
Aletha grew up on the family farm west of Norton. She attended District 111 rural grade school and graduated from high school in Norton. She enjoyed music and played piano at home and clarinet in the school band.
On June 27, 1942 in Norton she married Verle E. Rule. They lived in the Norton area until 1945 when they moved to Steamboat Springs, CO. The young couple with a growing family returned to a farm west of Norton in 1949. At this location she was a partner in the farming/dairy business and raised her family until 1982. At that time, she and Verle moved to the west edge of Norton with their business being a boarding kennel with dog breeding for twelve years. She enjoyed puppies that were raised. The couple moved into Norton in 1994 and Aletha lived in this home until 2014. From November of that year until her unexpected death, she was a resident of Whispering Pines in Norton.
Beyond the work of life, Aletha was active as a 4-H leader, in various activities of the Norton Church of God, and after moving to town increased her volunteer efforts. The list of volunteerism included delivering meals on wheels, the Norton Hospital, and the Andbe Home. She was on the Oronoque Cemetery Board. She was still making calls and sending e-mail messages for the prayer chain of the church and to recruit food for family memorial meals.
She enjoyed being a mother and grandmother and probably worried too much about each of the off-spring. We know many prayers were sent for their well-being as each grew, for success as students and the occupation choices, and for safety when any traveled. Many hours were spent being a mother to the four children she raised with Verle.
She is survived by three of her children: Dr. John and Carolyn Rule of Steamboat Springs, CO; Sharron and Phil Knox of Brewster, KS; Phillip and Dianne Rule of Lenora, KS. Additional survivors include sister, Vivan Skrdlant of Norton, brother-in-law, Jim Rule of Hotchkiss, CO, sister-in-law, Norieta Rule of Anchorage, AK, daughter-in-law, Elaine Rule of Norton. The generational survivors are 11 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, 4 great-great grandchildren. Also left behind are many extended family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by, her parents; husband, Verle; son, Richard Rule; great-grandson; Tyson Kinderknecht, and great-great granddaughter, Natalee Gilgenbach.
