Obituary of Julia Mapes

IN LOVING MEMORY OF JULIA ANN (JIMENEZ) MAPES Julia Ann (Jimenez) Mapes, daughter of Lucio and Jacinta (Gurrola) Jimenez, was born September 26, 1928, in Atchison, Kansas, and passed away at her home in Norton, on November 29, 2015, at the age of 87. Julia grew up in Atchison, Kansas and went to the Atchison Catholic School. On May 31, 1950, Alvin Mapes and Julia were united in marriage in Norton. Julia and Alvin lived in Norton until 1952, when they moved back to Atchison, Kansas. They had moved to Leavenworth, Kansas and Marysville, Missouri for a short period of time before making their home back in Norton. Julia was a lifetime member of the Alter Society. She also loved playing cards, bingo, and watching every Kansas City Chiefs and Kansas City Royals game. Julia's greatest love was her family. Alvin and Julia celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary this past May. She loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren with all her heart. Survivors include: her husband, Alvin Mapes, of their home in Norton; one daughter, Virginia Carlton, Norton; one brother, Art Jimenez, Lee's Summit, Missouri.; one sister, Virginia Galley, Atchison, Kansas; two grandchildren, Brian, and wife, Amy Carlton, Lakewood, Colorado; Brent Carlton, Norton; two great-grandchildren, Bradon and McKenna Carlton, Lakewood, Colorado; many other relatives and friends. Julia was preceded in death by her parents, six brothers, Victor, Julian, Robert, Alex, Cosmos and John Jimenez; two sisters, Toni Cameron and Mary Razo; son-in-law, JB Carlton; nephew, Tom Bowen; niece, Patty Jensen.
