Obituary of Wayne Everitt Elson

IN LOVING MEMORY OF WAYNE E. ELSON Wayne Everitt Elson, son of Guy and Anna (Lamb) Elson, was born October 31, 1929, in Furnace County, Nebraska, and passed away at the Good Samaritan Home in Lyons, Kansas, on October 6, 2015, at the age of 85. Wayne attended the grade and high schools in Almena. Wayne served in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict from 1947-1952, when he received an honorable discharge. On August 9, 1952, Wayne and Velma Johnson were united in marriage in Almena. To this union, one daughter, Linda, was born. They made their home in Logan, Kansas, but later divorced. Wayne married Rita Shelton on May 7, 1975, in El Dorado, Kansas. In 1984, Wayne obtained his GED. Wayne worked for the Kansas Highway Department for 35 years, retiring in 1991. Wayne was an active member of the Harmonson-Redd American Legion Post 63, VFW, and the Eagles Lodge in Norton. He was a member of a square dance club, and was active on a bowling team. Following his retirement from the state, Wayne kept busy painting houses and also enjoyed his daily walking. He liked to travel and had been to Saudi Arabia and other places overseas. Survivors include: his daughter, Linda, and husband, Ken Burton, Albert, Kansas; one grandson, Clay Burton, Parsons, Kansas; one brother, Cletus Elson, Grand Island, Nebraska; Nieces, Nephews, Great-Nieces, and Great-Nephews; other relatives and friends.
