Obituary of Jerry D Bantam

IN LOVING MEMORY OF JERRY D. BANTAM Jerry DeWayne Bantam, son of DeWayne and Anna R. (Gardner) Bantam, was born June 5, 1934, in Almena, Kansas, and passed away at the Norton County Hospital in Norton, Kansas, on September 19, 2015, at the age of 81. Jerry grew up in the Almena community and graduated from the Almena Rural High School. He served his country in the U.S. Army. On April 29, 1956, Jerry and Donna Breathouwer were united in marriage in Prairie View, Kansas. They made their home in Colorado Springs, Colorado, Germany, and Almena before moving to Norton where they raised their family. They owned and operated Norton Flying Service and Norton Chemical and Fertilizer. Jerry also managed the Norton Municipal Airport for many years. Jerry enjoyed many hobbies. He was a founding member of MBM Vintage Race Cars with Don McMullen. They loved building the cars from the ground up and then racing them as avid supporters of the Norton Race Track. He was a co-founder of the SPPA and the shooting range with the Norton Prairie Powder Packers. He also enjoyed flying airplanes, gardening and woodworking. His greatest joy in life was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Jerry is survived by his wife, Donna, of their home in Norton; three sons, Michael and wife, Patty Bantam, Boise, Idaho; Mark D. Bantam, Goodland, Kansas, and Randall Bantam, Almena; one grandchild and three great-grandchildren; one cousin, Donna Williams, Houston, Texas and her family; other relatives and friends. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, his parents-in-law, one grandson, Ryan Scott Bantam, one great-uncle, David Bantam, and two cousins.
