Obituary of Mabel Malcom
IN LOVING MEMORY OF
MABEL EVA (WHITNEY) MALCOLM
Mabel Eva Malcolm, daughter of Charles E. and Emma Teaford Whitney, was born January 11, 1914, northwest of Almena, Ks, and passed away at the Andbe home in Norton, Ks, on June 14, 2015, at the age of 101.
She grew up in the Almena area and attended Kinderhook Rural Grade School and graduated from Almena Rural High School in 1932. She taught one year at Star Rural Grade School and one year at South Fork Rural Grade School. She also helped tend to her ailing grandfather for one year.
One April 21, 1935, Mabel and Andrew Malcolm were united in marriage in Norton, Ks. They made their home on a farm east of Almena and later on a farm Norton east of Almena where they farmed and raised livestock. They moved into Almena in 1986. They celebrated their 65th anniversary in 2000.
Mabel attended the Almena United Methodist Church and was a member of the Neighborly Neighbors Club. She especially enjoyed gardening and was active in various community affairs.
Survivors include: three sons, Bill, and wife, Carol Malcolm, of Hutchinson, Ks; Jim, and wife, Shirley Malcolm, of Colby, Ks; Norman Malcolm, of Wichita, Ks; one brother, Eddie Whitney, of Norton, Ks; five grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; six great-great- grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her parents-in-law, six brothers: Lewis, and wife, Nellie, Art, and wife, Sylva, C. Vernon, and wife, Maxine, Walter, and wife, Marie, Wesley, and wife, Frances, Floyd Elmer died in infancy; one sister: Alpharetta, and husband, Fred; one sister-in-law: Joan Whitney.
