Obituary of Briace P "Sandy" Spires

IN LOVING MEMORY OF BRIACE P. “SANDY” SPIRES Briace Proctor “Sandy” Spires, son of H.C. and Maudie (Anglin) Spires, was born January 6, 1924, in Poynor, Missouri, and passed away at the Norton County Hospital in Norton, Kansas, on June 6, 2015, at the age of 91. Sandy grew up in Hoisington, Kansas, and attended the Boyd school to the 8th grade. On October 7, 1945, Sandy and Carol Jean Huff were united in marriage in Jennings, Kansas. They made their home in Jennings until 1951, when they moved to Hoisington. In 1953, they moved to Norton where Sandy was a city worker at the power plant and a contractor. Sandy’s wife, Jean, passed away February 16, 2008. Sandy enjoyed cooking for the Methodist Church soup suppers and coached softball and baseball for many years. He was also known for his Halloween haunted houses. Survivors include: five children and their spouses, Sandra and Myron Cochran, Bardstown, Kentucky; Linda and Gene Carter, Norton; Sharol and Bart Ward, Shawnee, Kansas; Briace “Opie” and Jackie Spires, Stockton, Kansas; Angie and Scot Sisson, Shawnee, Kansas; 15 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Clayton Spires, Hoisington, Kansas; William Spires, Centennial, Colorado; two sisters, Basil Jantz, Salina, Kansas; Shirley Juby, Gillette, Wyoming; other relatives and many friends. Sandy was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, one brother, LaVern Spires, and four sisters, Nadine Beeman, Bernice Whitaker, Melba Maggert, and Twila Brock.
