Obituary of Dorance Eugene Mapes
IN LOVING MEMORY OF
DORANCE EUGENE MAPES
Dorance Eugene Mapes, son of Elmer D. and E. Blanche (Mathes) Mapes, was born September 19, 1931, on their home on the farm southeast of Norton, Kansas. He passed away at the Phillips County Retirement Center in Phillipsburg, Kansas, on June 25, 2010, at the age of 78.
As a small boy, Gene never attended school due to physical handicaps. He never married and remained at home with his parents and helped out on the farm and doing chores. Gene and his parents attended the Community Full Gospel Church regularly for several years until moving to the rest home in Phillipsburg, where he attended Sunday services held at the home.
Survivors include: one brother and wife, Loyal and Creta Mapes, Norton; two sisters, Irene McFarland, Norton; Dorothy and Guy Goodon, Towney, Alabama; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Gene was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Hiram Mapes, and three sisters, Marie Carver, Mildred Wright, and Ivalee Moore.
Memorials may be made to Phillips County Retirement Center.
