Obituary of Clara Shewey
IN LOVING MEMORY OF
V. CLARA SHEWEY
Virginia Clara Shewey, daughter of Louis E. and Minnie (Smith) Traxler, was born April 12, 1926, in Wallace County, Kansas, and passed away at the Norton County Hospital in Norton, Kansas, on August 21, 2014, at the age of 88.
Clara's family moved to the Almena community when she was six months old. She grew up in Almena and attended the Walnut Grove Rural School. On June 27, 1945, Clara and Gerald R. Shewey were united in marriage in Norton. They made their home east of Almena where they raised their family and Clara was a homemaker. She loved living on the farm and the farm life and was never afraid of hard work. Following the death of her husband, Clara remained on the farm and moved to Norton in her later years.
Clara was a member of the Norton First Church of God. She enjoyed embroidering and reading and especially loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, and church family.
Survivors include: six children, Helen Shewey, Topeka, Kansas; Gerald Shewey, Davenport, Iowa; George Shewey, Norton; Julia Jellison, Tonganoxie, Kansas; Virginia Lentz, Almena; and Karen Anderson, Prairie View, Kansas; one sister, Louise Traxler; 20 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren; eight step-grandchildren and nine step-great-grandchildren; other relatives and many friends.
Clara was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, three sons, Charles Raymond, Wardie, and Jimmie, two grandsons, one great-grandson, one great-granddaughter, one son-in-law, two brothers, and three sisters.
