Obituary of Marcelle Melody Allen
IN LOVING MEMORY OF
MARCELLE M. ALLEN
Marcelle Melody Allen, daughter of Roy and Mildred (Power) Strickland, was born January 18, 1925, in Kirwin, KS, and passed away at the Norton County Hospital in Norton, KS, on July 27, 2014, at the age of 89.
Marcelle was a graduate of Lenora Rural High School in 1945. She married her high school sweetheart Joe H. Allen on June 15, 1942. They made their home in Zarah, KS, and Trinidad, CO, before moving into their current family home in Norton in 1952.
Marcelle was a stay at home "Mom" until 1970. She worked as Executive Housekeeper for the Norton County Hospital for over 30 years, retiring as the Director of Environmental Services.
Marcelle was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Norton, a life Member of the American Legion Auxiliary serving in all offices in the Harmonson Redd Unit # 63 and as Kansas 6th District President. She was a life member of the Disabled Veterans of America (DAV) and of the Daughters of the America Revolution (DAR). She was active in the Girls Scouts and Cub Scouts of America.
Marcelle will be remembered for the love of her family and the enjoyment she received in being with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Survivors include five children: John Allen, and wife Anna, Leawood, KS; Joseph Allen, and wife Linda, St. Louis, MO; Nancy Ruspini, and husband Russell, Golden, CO; Jean Johnson of Norton, KS; Jane Gilman, and husband Keith, Hays, KS; one son-in-law, P.D. Hatfield, Greely, CO; 12 grandchildren, 18 great- grandchildren; many other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe, daughter, Sharon Smith (Hatfield,) grandson Chris Hatfield, her parents, and 9 siblings.
