Obituary of John D. Gnagy
IN LOVING MEMORY OF
JOHN D. GNAGY
John D. Gnagy, son of Roy and Olive (Kinser) Gnagy, was born June 7, 1933, in Allison, Kansas, and passed away at his home in Anchorage, Alaska, on May 2, 2014, at the age of 80.
John grew up in the Allison/Lenora communities of Norton County, Kansas. He attended the Lenora schools graduating from the Lenora High School and served in the U.S. Navy. In 1961, John and Elizabeth Carroll Moore were united in marriage. They made their home in California until 1964, when they moved to Anchorage where he was an oil well driller. In 2010, he met Chun Herrod who was his longtime companion.
John loved to fish, sing, and dance, and especially enjoyed visiting with his friends and family.
Survivors include: his companion, Chun Herrod, Anchorage; one brother and wife, Roy and Mary Gnagy, Norton; one sister, Josephine Holub, Barsto, California; many nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
John was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Elizabeth, two brothers, Kay Albert and Donald Eugene, and three sisters, Frances Anna Whitney, May Pearl Maddy, and Neva Grace Erhardt.
A memorial has been established to the Anchorage, Alaska VA.
