Obituary of Dolores M. Fitzmaurice
IN LOVING MEMORY OF
DOLORES M. FITZMAURICE
Dolores M. Fitzmaurice, daughter of Ireno and Buenaventura (Badillo) Castillo, was born April 15, 1922, in de trancoso Zacatecas, Mexico, and passed away at the Andbe Home in Norton, Kansas, on January 20, 2014, at the age of 91.
When Dolores was two years old the family moved to Martindale, Texas, and at age five, they moved to Hutchinson, Kansas. When she was eight years old, they moved to Garden City, Kansas, and then at age 15, she moved to the Norton Sanatorium. She attended the public schools in Hutchinson and Garden City and received her GED through the Norton High School. In February 1943, Dolores and Leo Fitzmaurice were united in marriage at the St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Norton. They lived at the Norton Sanatorium until 1951, when they moved into Norton to their home on Home Street and raised their family. Following Leo's death on October 19, 1975, Dolores continued to live in her home until July 2012, when she moved to Whispering Pines and then moved into the Andbe Home in January 2013.
Dolores was a member of the St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church where she taught religion classes, served as a Eucharist Minister and on the Parish Council, and was a member of the Altar Society. In 1976, Dolores helped start the Norton Senior Citizen's Center where she served as the Director for 23 years, then worked as the meal site manager. In 1981, Dolores served as a delegate on the White House Conference on Aging. During her life, Dolores was also involved with the Jolly Mothers, Parents Without Partners, and served as a Girl Scout Leader and Boy Scout Den Mother.
Survivors include: five children and their spouses, Adrian and Patti Fitzmaurice, Olathe, Kansas; Joe and Patty Fitzmaurice, Loveland, Colorado; Mary and Mark Ahlemeyer, Logan, Kansas; David and Patty Fitzmaurice, St. Charles, Missouri; and Dan and Yvette Fitzmaurice, Lenexa, Kansas; one sister, Lupe, and husband, Percy Herra, Sidney, Nebraska; 15 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; other relatives and many friends.
Dolores was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, four brothers and sisters.
Rosary services will be held at the Enfield Funeral Home on Wednesday, January 22, 2014 at 7:00 p.m.
A memorial has been established to the Dolores Fitzmaurice Memorial Fund.
