Obituary of Donald Edward Wegener

IN LOVING MEMORY OF DONALD E. WEGENER Donald Edward Wegener, son of Edward and Louise (Braun) Wegener, was born April 19, 1923, in Norton County, Kansas, and passed away at his home in Norton County on December 21, 2013, at the age of 90. Don grew up on the farm northwest of Norton and attended the Immanuel Lutheran School. On August 27, 1944, Don and Norma D. Hestermann were united in marriage in Ludell, Kansas. Don served as a Mess Sargent in the U.S. Army during World War II from November 1944 until August 1946. Upon his discharge, they made their home on the farm northwest of Norton where they farmed and raised their family. Don was an active member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church where he was baptized and confirmed and later the Redeemer Lutheran Church of which he was a founding member. He served on the building committee of both churches as they were built and also held many offices in both congregations. In the Norton community he served on the Farm Bureau Board, was a founding member of the Norton County Cooperative Association and an original member of the United Northwest Federal Credit Union. Survivors include: his wife, Norma Wegener, of their home in Norton County; four children, Barbara Stutz, Axtell, Nebraska; Bruce and wife, Cindy Wegener, Norton; Glenda Wegener, Madison, Wisconsin; and Sandra and husband, Harvey Pakkebier, Densmore, Kansas; one son-in-law, Wayne Dobesh, of Florida; one sister, Mary Lou Wilner, Princeton, Illinois; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; other relatives and many friends. Don was preceded in death by his parents, his step-mother, Minnie Wegener, his daughter, Connie Dobesh, one grandson, Wyatt Wegener, one brother, Virgil Wegener, and three sisters, Letha Hofman, Iona Holste, and Roberta Moore. A memorial has been established to the Redeemer Lutheran Church.
