Obituary of Verla R. Chambers
IN LOVING MEMORY OF
VERLA R. CHAMBERS
Verla R. Chambers, daughter of Floyd Edwin and Mabel Loretta (Standley) Coomes, was born January 31, 1931, in Norton, Kansas, and passed away at the Andbe Home in Norton, Kansas, on December 18, 2013, at the age of 82.
Verla grew up in the Norton area and attended the Norton schools. She married Ferris N. Chambers on October 24, 1954, in Norton. They made their home on a farm near Wilsonville, Nebraska, and later moved to another farm south of Wilsonville. Shortly thereafter in 1959, they moved to the Loyal Jenkins farm northwest of Norton. There they raised their family and farmed and raised livestock. Ferris passed away February 25, 1992. Verla later moved into Norton in 1993, and in October 2009, moved into the Andbe Home.
Verla was a member of the Norton Christian Church and the Cozy Club. She enjoyed her work as a bookkeeper at the Horney's store in Norton and developed her love of music. Her greatest love was her family and especially her grandchildren.
Survivors include: one son and his wife, Curtis and Kim Chambers, Norton; one daughter and her husband, Tamra and Terry Rice, Hendley, Nebraska; three grandchildren, Angela Squires and husband, Travis, Rosanna Elizondo and husband, Alex, and Christopher Chambers; seven great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Inez Diedrich, Carlsbad, California, and Wilma Minton, Sun City West, AZ; other relatives and many friends.
Verla was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.
A memorial has been established to the Hospice Services of Norton County.
