Obituary of Marybelle Haslet Rowley
Marybelle Haslet Rowley departed this life on Thurs., Oct 17, 2013. She
enjoyed a rich, full life of 91 years. Born Sept. 5, 1922 in Colfax, Indiana
to Berdena and Jesse B. Haslet, she was raised and baptized there. She
married Sharrol "Sparky" Rowley in Salinas, CA March 5, 1943 and moved to
Norton, KS when "Sparky" returned from serving in WWII with the U.S. Army.
They raised three daughters, Linda Tritt, Springdale, Arkansas; Karen Vasconez
(deceased); Joyce Moriarty, Lenexa, Ks.
Marybelle went to work at the Norton County Hospital in 1957 as a Nurses' Aide
and Lab Assistant. In 1958 she became Medical Secretary for Dr. Paul Hornung.
She worked at the Norton State Hospital in the tubercular ward and then became
the County Attorney's Assistant and later the Probate Judge's Assistant in
Norton. After Sparky's death in 1974, Marybelle moved to Logan, KS and earned
her MHT degree at Colby Community College. She worked at the Norton State
Hospital for the Mentally Retarded and retired in 1984. In June 2007, she
moved to Lenexa, KS into Assisted Living. Even then, Marybelle's sense of
humor was strong and she enjoyed bringing a smile to others.
Marybelle had many talents and a huge gift of helping others in need. In
addition to serving as BPW President, she was Worthy Matron in Eastern Star,
Held numerous Local and State offices in AA, received the Golden Heart Award
from Valley Hope, and was a proud member of the American Legion Auxiliary.
Marybelle leaves 8 grandchildren: Brad Fegter, Mike Fegter, Michelle Pulley,
Tracy Tiller, Stacey Montgomery, Brooke Bergquist, Brandie Zschietzschmann,
Cortney Moriarty; 10 great grandchildren: Olivia, Kennedy & Madelaine
Fegter, Jeremy and Hailie Tiller, Tyler and Sabrina Montgomery, Grace
Bergquist and Ashton Zschietzschmann. 1 great- granddaughter Claire Pulley.
