Obituary of Evelyn Irene Lyon

IN LOVING MEMORY OF EVELYN I. LYON Evelyn Irene (Foley) Lyon, daughter of Clarence and Mabel Foley, was born one-half mile west of Norcatur, Kansas, on May 11, 1917, and passed away on October 4, 2013. Evelyn grew to womanhood in the Norcatur community. She attended Norcatur Grade School and graduated from Norcatur High School. Evelyn was united in marriage to Audrey (AW) Lyon on August 19, 1939. They made their home in the country near Reager from 1939 to 1947, when they moved to Norcatur. Evelyn was a member of the Norcatur United Methodist Church and Farm Bureau. She cooked at the Norcatur grade school and the Cardinal Caf for many years. She was particularly famous for her homemade pies. She loved her family and loved to cook, garden, sew, play cards, and dance. Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents; husband, AW Lyon; Son, Larry Lyon; brother, Don Foley; and sister, Elsie Martinez. She is survived by her sister, Helen Penn, Hiawatha; son, Terry (Barbara) Lyon, of Wichita; daughter-in-law, JoAnn Lyon, of Norcatur; grandchildren, Carl Lyon (Renee Harmon), of Norcatur; Sharlynn (Gene) Mermis, of Wichita; Kelli (Butch) Nuss, of Wichita; and five great-grandchildren, Riann Mermis, Brier Mermis, Morgann Mermis, all of Wichita; Max Nuss and Hayden Nuss, also of Wichita. She is also survived by many nephews and nieces. Memorials have been established to the Norcatur Park and to the Andbe Home in Norton.
